Ballroom Dancing Benefits- Six Things You Might Not Expect to Find
Ballroom dancing is a popular activity among people of all ages. This unique activity provides a lot of enjoyment and has become much more popular thanks to shows like Dancing with the Stars. To some, ballroom dancing is just dancing, but it really can be so much more than that. Not only will you learn some great dance moves, improve your ability to impress on the dance floor, and get a good workout, but you can enjoy a variety of other benefits, as well. Some of the perks that you might not expect from ballroom dancing include:
-Friends and new social activities. Many people are surprised at just how friendly other dancers are in their classes. You can make a whole new group of friends with ballroom dancing and enjoy each others' company in a variety of different ways. Expanding your social reach is a great benefit of this activity.
-Health benefits. While everyone knows that ballroom dancing can be a form of exercise because it is considered cardio training, they don't typically understand how deep those benefits go. You can improve your energy, reduce stress, improve your coordination and balance, and even gain strength and muscle tone along the way. It's fun and good for you.
-Playing dress-up. For men, this might not be as appealing as it is for the ladies. However, if you love getting all dolled up but never have any place to go, ballroom dancing is a great outlet for that creative expression. You can wear nice clothes and feel like a million bucks for no reason other than to have a good time.
-The intimacy. When most people hear 'intimacy', they think of sex. However, ballroom dancing provides an intimate, sensual connection between two partners, which is what makes it great for couples of all ages.
-Competitiveness can be found in ballroom dancing classes. There are programs that can teach you everything that you need to know about ballroom dancing from a competitive level so that you can go on to compete and win trophies and prizes for your dancing abilities.
-It's a challenge that you can conquer. Many people don't realize just how difficult ballroom dancing really is. If you take the time to conquer the challenge, you will feel great about what you have accomplished. Learning and mastering the art of dance takes time and effort, and will definitely give you a challenge that you can respect and appreciate.
So What Is Ballroom Dance?
Ballroom dance refers to a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. Its performance and entertainment aspects are also widely enjoyed on stage, in film, and on television.
Ballroom dance may refer, at its widest, to almost any type of social dancing as recreation. However, with the emergence of dance sport in modern times, the term has become narrower in scope. It usually refers to the International Standard and International Latin style dances (see dance categories below). These styles were developed in England, and are now regulated by the World Dance Council (WDC). In the United States, two additional variations are popular: American Smooth and American Rhythm. There are also a number of historical dances, and local or national dances, which may be danced in ballrooms or salons. Sequence dancing, in pairs or other formations, is still a popular style of ballroom dance.
